We envision a North Carolina that has an affordable
and just clean energy transition prioritizing fair treatment
of citizens statewide.
Duke Energy is one of the most polluting utilities and 3rd largest emissions of ANY business in the US in 2021.
The current energy system, a regulated utility monopoly (Duke Energy), leads to unnecessarily high energy bills for ratepayers, Carbon Plan and Integrated Resource Plans that do not meet mandated emissions reductions goals, both in 2022 and 2024, AND a lack of competition and innovation in our energy system, especially regarding solar and storage. Therefore, we propose a campaign that reduces Duke Energy’s influence on our state legislature so that we can pass legislation and rules, including those that change profit incentives, so that we can achieve our vision.
What is our plan?
We will reduce Duke Energy’s influence by persuading legislators to sign a No Toxic Money Pledge, passing a consumer protection act, and filing bills that challenge the current market structure and rules that reform the rate-making designs
